My edubuntu journey started almost few years back .Edubuntu is a very good os package for schools,colleges and other educational institutions.Moreover its completely free and open source..so no need to pay money for software.
Last week we had a request to install edubuntu and setup the lab for gkmhps school in bangarpet,kolar district. It was thin-client and server setup lab..so first we installed edubuntu ltsp server edition on server..after few setups regarding dhcp,ip addresses we were able to boot from thin clients.. We installed certain packages like wine,vlc..etc.
Teachers and principal was so happy.Actually they never used linux os.they were new to this gnome desktop environment..still they could enjoy the tools applications of edubuntu easily. Really ease of use was great. children could easily pick up tuxpaint and other tools.they created good drawings and they played lot of educational games like gbrainy,gcomprise,childsplay..etc. We also felt glad..
hours of hard work finally gave us the excellent results.
After this we got another request from SBVN school,srinivasapura tq,kolar dt to setup the lab and to train teachers for this new edubuntu.The lab had 50 desktop systems..we installed edubuntu one by one..it took so much of time.we trained teachers for almost a week.They got lot of ideas about edubuntu and its use. Teachers are already familiar with use of smartboards in there classroom. We are thinking to install it on smart board class room desktop also. The response from teacher,students and management is great.
